چکیده

This technical note presents and evaluates a simple approach for estimating the degradation of bridge decks caused by chlorideinduced corrosion degradation. This approach uses the Monte Carlo method and combines a local deterministic mechanics-based model for predicting surface cracking time and a global probabilistic model for predicting a degradation curve by using random variables. The predicted damage severity is mapped to the National Bridge Inventory rating scheme. Simulation results are shown to be in reasonable agreement with the documented ratings of bridges from different regions in the state of Michigan. Implementation of the method into a computer program is discussed to illustrate how the approach can allow mechanics-based models to be more accessible to highway agencies for condition assessment and for projecting the performance of existing and new reinforced concrete bridge decks. Structural analysis of the deck of access bridges in offshore docks under dynamic loading of moving heavy vehicles (Case study: 10 feet concrete deck with prefabricated beam, under the passage of 125-ton bogie)

Ports are the most important economic, political and military bottlenecks. This puts shoreline structures (port) in the class of important structures and they have a crucial role in the countries’ life. Pile and deck wharf and their access bridges and offshore deck (jetties), are one of the parts which are supplier of coupling between the land and the waterfront. Correct and exact estimation of...

Improved GPR-based Condition Assessment of Reinforced Concrete Bridge Decks Using Artificial Neural Network

Accounting for the effect of rebar depth variation is one of the most important and challenging tasks to accurately assess the condition of reinforced concrete elements using ground penetrating radar (GPR) technique. In current practices, this task is performed on the individual basis, as for each bridge deck a unique depth correction model is derived from the GPR data collected on it. It is fo...

Effect of Link Slab on Seismic Response of Two Span Straight and Skew Bridges

Highway bridges are frequently constructed as simple span structures with steel or concrete girders and a cast-in-place concrete deck, spanning from one pier to another. At each end of the simple span deck, a joint is provided for deck movement due to temperature, shrinkage, and creep. Bridge deck joints are expensive and pose many problems with regard to bridge maintenance. Elimination of deck...
